Alia’s intention as your counsellor is to walk alongside you during your healing journey. She works from a person-centred, trauma informed lens in which she is always aware of your boundaries and level of safety and trust in the therapy room. As well, she also inform her work using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) practices where she supports you in targeting any distressing thoughts, feelings, or behaviours, and shifting your relationship with those experiences with the hope that you may come to a place of acceptance and live a life full of clarity and authenticity.

Overall, she draws from mindfulness practices where you would work together to increase your awareness to the present moment, without judgment to any accompanying sensations, to ultimately add fulfillment and engagement throughout your life.

I believe that we have most of the tools we need to take on the different hurdles in our lives. What might be missing is a new perspective that can come from a therapeutic relationship. I offer an open, safe, and non-judgmental space to all individuals who are looking to dive deep and explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

As each person has their own set of experiences and challenges, I strive to support clients in a tailored way so change is promoted and encouraged. My intention is to provide clients with tangible tools and strategies to foster change as well as the opportunity to feel vulnerable in a safe space.

My approaches include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Adlerian Therapy. I have background in chronic pain, substance use, and support clients in areas like anxiety, life transitions, goal setting, and generational trauma.

Believing firmly that we humans have a remarkable capacity for self-healing and personal growth, I adopt a person-centered approach to my therapeutic work. Through acceptance, many issues may be better resolved as they are brought into the light of awareness. Utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance, Commitment Therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) techniques and tools, I seek to meet my clients with unconditional positive regard and to walk with each of them on their path to healing.

Reaching out is not an easy thing to do; you must have already been through a process of internal conflicts and struggles.
